Just Julie
My name is Julie and apparently I like to learn “by fire.” I thought I had this “learning” thing figured out early in life. I am a middle child of five, and I could learn A LOT of what NOT to do by quietly watching my siblings get in trouble, and for a while it worked! Then life happened, and life happened fast. You can hear all about the various twists and turns in my life through the blog section, but at this present point in time I am married with four children. The oldest two are twins and are adults now. They made me an unexpecting mom in January of 2012 when they joined our family thought foster care at age 17. I gave birth 16 months later to our third, and our fourth came home 7 months after that as an eleven-day old. I work full- time as an NCAA Head Women’s Water Polo coach and support my husband in the church we started in 2017 in Pasadena, California. The family, job and decision to church plant all took place in the course of about three and a half calendar years, and OH MAN were they full of challenges and growth. How did we keep sane? Jesus, his people, and A LOT of help… that’s how!
While I have since had a some seasons of rest and rejuvenation, the Lord has made one thing very clear to me, I will always be learning and growing, weather it is through fire, through washing away of the old, or through the simplest tasks of everyday life- even the words of a 5-year old. He is always speaking and it is up to me to listen to the small and large things. It is a pretty humbling and rewarding thing to learn and grow, but in the process I am learning it is important to have fun too… I am currently trying to bring that back into my life. So...
Things I like to do for fun
Go on dates, adventures, or pretty much anywhere with my husband
Water Sports… all of them! Even the ones I haven’t tried yet (on a warm day...a California warm day).
Grocery Shopping ALONE (why is this therapeutic for me? Probably because I love food)
Dance
The things I could talk about all day
The amazing healing and restoration work of God in people’s lives.
My family/ adoption
Godly leadership
What life is teaching people and how they are growing in both the struggles and celebrations.
Things I want to change in this world
Unifying the Church of God to act the way the bible teaches
Fatherlessness
Unfair/ unjust treatment of people
Things I feel like I am put on this earth to do
Love my husband and raise awesome kids
Encourage, empower and equip women
Love people like Jesus, obey His call, and speak His truth in love.
I am a woman who likes to go deep and be honest. I don’t like to sugar coat things, but God is teaching me how to better speak truth with LOVE. I am a messy work in progress and I am totally OK with that, because God knows me, sees my heart, and loves me regardless. I continue to seek Him in all I do and when I mess up I work to take it in stride and follow the Lord’s prompting to the best of my ability as I continue on forward.
Learning is living and I like living, so I admit I will always be in process. Here is a little something I am learning this week.
